Biography
From a very young age Jordi Gené was always interested in the world of cars. When he was 16 he was proclaimed Spanish Karting Champion, and at 17 he won the Formula Fiat. His passion for racing forced him to take a very difficult decision just two years later when he was 19: to forget about his friends, his studies and family so that he could move to the UK for five years. During that time Gené was battling it out with high-level drivers like Rubens Barrichello, David Coulthard, Jaques Villeneuve and Olivier Panis, among others. Racing against drivers who would soon appear in Formula 1, and at the same time picking up some valuable honours: 2nd in World F-3 in 1991 and 5th in the Internacional F-3000 Championship, until he was knocking on the door of F-1 as a test driver with Benetton.
Jordi Gené is on of the most versatile drivers ever to come out of Spain, as he has competed in a wide variety of racing disciplines, in both tour cars as well as Endurance, Trucks and he has even demonstrated his skills on two wheels; he participated in the 24 Hour Motorbike Race at Montmeló. This driver from Sabadell, married with two children, has racing blood in his veins, an example of this is the fact that his brother, Marc is currently a test driver with Ferrari. He has also driven with Minardi in Formula 1 and is currently competing in the Le Mans Series.
In 2004, Jordi Gené started his adventure with SEAT in the WTCC, and in these four years he has got four race victories and has finished on the podium several more times. In 2008, with the clear objective of winning the WTCC title, he did some great work for his team both in races as well as in many training sessions throughout the year, and the experience gained over the last three years will be a big help as he tries to achieve his goal. Gené won in Mexico and was on the podium in Valencia, Pau (France), and Monza (Italy), and saw how his mission was accomplished in Japan, the penultimate date of the season, as SEAT and Repsol wrapped up the World Championship for both drivers and teams.
This season his objective is to win the title again and take advantage of his experience at the wheel of the SEAT León to get as many points as possible.
