Esteve Rabat regains consciousness and is recovering well

Repsol KTM Team rider Esteve Rabat regained consciousness this morning at the Catalunya General Hospital and is recovering well from his fall yesterday on the Catalunya Circuit. Rabat, who lost consciousness on arrival at the Catalunya General Hospital and remained sedated throughout the night, has responded positively this morning, at 9:30 am, to the progressive reduction of sedatives and the stimulation given by the medical services so that he could regain consciousness.

Last night, at 11:00 pm, the medical team at the Catalunya General Hospital Intensive Care Unit attending him, led by Doctor Cristina Fortiá, carried out a further CAT, with negative results again, meaning he has no cerebral injuries. After the good news given yesterday at midnight, they decided to keep the patient sedated for the rest of the night. On a side note, when he woke up this morning, Esteve Rabat insisted on returning to the Catalunya Circuit to continue with the training sessions and run tomorrow’s race. The Repsol KTM Team rider will remain in hospital at least for another 48 hours, in order to undergo further medical tests next Monday.

According to a statement by Dr Carles Ferrer, on-call Intensivist at the Catalunya General Hospital Intensive Care Unit, and daytime Head of Staff, “at 12:00 o’clock today Saturday, seventh of June, it was determined that the patient Esteve Rabat is recovering favourably, and was disconnected from the mechanical ventilation and tubing without problem. A normal level of consciousness has been observed (GCS 15), with no neurological focality. He is still under observation and treatment in our unit, awaiting confirmation of a positive clinical recovery over the next few hours. His prognosis is currently guarded. If positive recovery is confirmed, he can be taken to the general ward, awaiting further diagnosis starting next 9th June”.
