He is the current World Indoor and Outdoor Trials Champion, and without a doubt the reference and the man to beat in the world of trials today. This season Toni Bou has demonstrated again that he knows no limits; the Repsol Montesa-HRC rider continues to harvest victories, and has also shown himself to be capable of overcoming truly difficult situations like at the Granada Indoor Trials, where after a hard fall, he recovered from his injuries only to finally take the victory. With two rounds left in the World Indoor Trials, the Repsol rider tops the general classification with a 6 point lead.

How are you facing this season as current World Champion?
Struggling to make it happen again. It’s always complicated and we know it’ll be tough. As we saw over the last few rounds, my rivals are very strong and won’t make it easy for us. I hope to continue winning and to stay in the lead. The important thing is to stay ahead, which is what I’m doing this year.

Is your goal to improve on the spectacular season you completed last year?
I think that’s hard to beat. We have to try to win the two World Championships like last year, and both the bike and myself are developing to achieve it, though it’s going to be tough .

What’s the secret of this success?
I suppose it’s training, improving, taking special care of your body so as not to reach the end of the season too worn out, because last year I only just made it, and that’s going to be decisive.

How do you feel physically, right now?
Quite well at the moment, in spite of the accident in Granada. I recovered well, and though at the time it looked complicated, it’s already forgotten.

With such a tight agenda, do you really have time to rest and unwind before a new world championship?
It’s always difficult, because everything is squeezed in. The world Outdoor Championships will start soon and the Spanish Championship has already started. You have to give it your best, but at the same time paying close attention to physical preparation, in order to make it to the end of a season that can be very long.

The change last year to the 4-stroke Cota was perfect for you. Is the bike still developing?
Yes, it has improved even more. Though bit by bit, because it’s hard to improve on a bike that is already very developed; it’s very hard making it smaller, it’s very hard to remove more weight without losing the high level of performance that our bike offers at this moment. In any case, we are always working on something.
