The Repsol rider Repsol Laia Sanz ended the Women`s World Championship winning the third and final round held today, Friday, in Darfo Boario, Italy. With this triumph Laia Sanz has confirmed her ninth world title, something she had retained mathematically last Saturday after carrying off the second round. The Repsol Montesa – HRC Team rider has now ended this season unbeaten – she also participated in the Women`s European Championship – and now at the age of 23 has won a total of 17 títles.
On a terrain that was easy, but where any points penalty were difficult to recover, Laia Sanz finished the first lap at the top of the classification, although she only had a one point advantage. The second lap brought out the best in the nine times World Champion and she did not receive any more penalty points.Laia Sanz will end this year`s international calendar as a member of the Spanish Women`s team in the Trial des Nations, where once again she hopes to get another victory.Laia Sanz:The season has been very positive, and I have fulfilled my two overriding objectives, regaining the World and European Championships. Finishing the season in this way, having won all three rounds in each of the two competitions, makes me feel even more satisfied. Today`s trial was quite easy but on the first lap I took a wrong line and I twisted my ankle; but on the second, in spite of the pain, everything went much better. As I mentioned, my personal objectives have been fulfilled but tomorrow it would be great to round it all off with a win in the Trial des Nations. If we can do that my success would be even more complete.
