Toni Bou finished the Andorra Trial GP, held today Sunday in the Andorran town of Sant Julià de Lòria, in third position and in what was the third to last round in this year`s World Championship. And so the Repsol rider now starts the run-in to the end of the competition as leader of the overall classification with a 12 point advantage over his closest rival.
His teammate, Takahisa Fujinami, finished 4th and saw his run of three consecutive second places brought to an end. But with this result the Japanese rider has strengthened his hold on third place in the overall.
Laia Sanz, also a member of the Repsol Montesa – HRC team, who yesterday won at the same venue in the first round of the Women`s World Trial Championship, was 10th in the today`s Junior category.
The next round of the World Trial Championship is on 6th September in Tona (Barcelona) and will end a week later in the French Alps, at the Isola 2000 ski station.
Toni Bou
“A twelve point lead is a good one with what will be two crucial rounds left. I know that a podium finish in each of them would mean I retain my title, but obviously I will try to win them. I think that I did not do things badly today and the battle with Adam [Raga] was as intense as always, with a tiny difference at the end; but Jeroni [Fajardo] rode incredibly and beat us”.
Takahisa Fujinami
“My result today had nothing to do with the last three rounds. I made a lot of mistakes and I finished 4th thanks to the smallest of gaps. Anyway the result is not all bad, because in the overall I am still 3rd”.
