This afternoon Toni Bou wrote another golden chapter in the history of Spanish motorcycling, winning his third consecutive World Trial Championship. The Repsol rider has had an excellent season winning both the indoor and outdoor titles again, with 11 victories in the 16 rounds in both specialities. An impressive result that confirms him as the best rider in the world for the third consecutive year.
The outdoor season began 4 April with a difficult round in Ireland, there he was 2nd in a tight finish after a trial that was characterised by the slippery zones, due to the typical wet weather in the British Isles. A result he made up for the following day as he won, this meant he was back at the top of the championship standings, tied with his big rival, Adam Raga.
Three weeks later the third round took place in Portugal, there the Repsol rider got another victory that broke the tie he had with his compatriot. Three weeks later Bou ratified his great form by winning two more victories in the UK, and he repeated a one-two in Japan. After these 7 rounds the Repsol rider had 6 victories and one second place finish, making him the rider to beat once again.
A few mistakes meant that he finished 3rd in Italy; one week later he got the same result in Andorra after putting in a great performance, even so he was beaten by Jeroni Fajardo & Adam Raga. After the summer break Bou won in Tona, with the title becoming a formality from then on. Today, in spite of being adversely affected by the rain that fell towards the end of the second lap, something that meant he finished in 4th place, he was able to confirm that he had won his third World Trial Championship.
