Qualifying sessions cancelled due to the heavy rain falling on Estoril

The strong storm that approached the Iberian Peninsula yesterday has continued to do its worst today in Estoril. This morning’s third practice sessions took place in the rain and finally, the downpour that fell over the following few hours completely flooded the circuit and facilities, forcing race direction to cancel this afternoon’s qualifying sessions.

Therefore, the combination of the best times registered in the three practice sessions has been used to define tomorrow’s starting grids. Marc Márquez, who fell on the wet track yesterday, preventing him from doing more than a few laps, was eleventh in the rain today – this was his best time all weekend –, so he will start from the third row of the starting grid tomorrow.

In MotoGP, both Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa also registered their best times in the third free practice session held this morning. Dovizioso set the seventh best time and will start from the third row of the grid and Pedrosa will do so from the fourth after progressing steadily to set the twelfth best time.
