Third fastest time for Pablo Nieto
The rain has hindered the riders from working as they had planned due to the difficult track conditions
The 125cc teams have continued with the IRTA test at the Jerez Circuit this weekend. The rain has hindered the riders from working as they had planned due to the difficult track conditions. Pablo Nieto made a total of 40 laps during the first day setting the twelfth fastest time, whilst his team-mate Sergio Gadea was fourteenth fastest after 47 laps. The rain showed up again today and the test session finished earlier than planned. The Italian rider Roberto Locatelli set the pace during the IRTA tests. He was fastest yesterday clocking 1´50.248, and improved his time today putting himself on top of the classification with 1´49.957.Pablo Nieto 1´51.345 ‘I’m not very happy because we haven’t been able to lap much due to the rain. Yesterday was a very irregular day because the track was partially wet and you can’t be fast because a single mistake can make you crash. I have been working on the engine. Towards the end of the session the track dried and I was able to set the twelfth fastest time. The same happened today: the track was wet and we began lapping very late. The tarmac dried up a bit and I took the chance to improve my time. I’ve been able to make three good laps and set the third fastest time. I also took the chance to make some tests with the chassis with good results. Too bad we had bad weather here in Jerez because I needed to make several laps to get some rhythm. I haven’t been able to test much during the preseason due to an injury in my hand. Next week we will travel to Italy, where I hope to be able to work better if the weather conditions allow us to do so.’Sergio Gadea 1´52.869 ‘I’m quite happy in general although the weather was no big help. I was fourteenth fastest yesterday and today I’ve been able to improve my time eight tenths, so I think that’s OK considering the test conditions. I’ve also had several frights during the weekend because I’ve been just about to crash a couple of times. We haven’t been able to ride much but at least we’ve been able to solve the engine problems we had in Barcelona. Here everything went much better. Now we’re travelling to Mugello, a completely new circuit for me. I hope there will be a good weather to be able to ride well.’1st day 1. R. Locatelli 1´50.248 2. A. Dovizioso 1´51.05612. P.
