Sebastián Porto keeps the pole in the 250 and will go for another victory tomorrow.
Alex Barros sixth and Hayden ninth in MotoGP; Pablo Nieto fifth in the 125.
The weather conditions and the fearsome rain respected the day, with wonderful sunshine and temperatures reaching 28º C. In MotoGP, the morning results predicted a good result for the Repsol Honda Team during the second qualifying practice, with Barros second and Hayden eighth fastest. But things didn’t work out well for Nicky and Alex in the afternoon. The first of them had trouble with the front end of his Honda – it pushes too hard in the corners – and that hindered him from improving the times set yesterday. He was set back to the ninth position of the grid, on the third row. His teammate Alex Barros, second fastest in the morning, hoped to improve yesterday’s fourth place and get a place on the front row. However, Alex was hindered by the large traffic on the track while using his second set of qualifying tyres, having to settle for the sixth place on the grid. The third Repsol rider in the premier class, Rubén Xaus, is not having a good weekend at the Sachsenring. In addition to the difficulties of the track itself and the fact that he didn’t know it, he has been having technical problems with his Ducati. All of this took him to get a back eighteenth position on the grid.
In the 250, Sebastián Porto was the fastest rider of the class at the Sachsenring during the practices. The increase of temperatures hindered most of the riders from improving the times set yesterday, including Porto and Fonsi Nieto. But the Argentinean rider managed to keep his pole and will start tomorrow from the top spot of the starting grid. Sebastián has a good pace for the race and has prepared his bike’s settings conscientiously, hoping to sign and seal the good performance on the German track fighting for the victory. His teammate Fonsi Nieto, hindered by slower riders during his fast laps at the end of the timed session, did not improve positions but did not loose them either, keeping his eighth place and starting tomorrow from the second row of the grid.
In the 125cc, Héctor Barberá, who set the fastest time yesterday kept the lead of the time sheets until the last minute of the session but was set back to second by the Italian leader of the standings Andrea Dovizioso in his last lap. Repsol rider Pablo Nieto, third fastest yesterday, dropped back to fifth this afternoon, thus loosing his place on the front row, despite being only 2 tenths of a second behind the pole time. His teammate, Sergio Gadea, two seconds faster than yesterday, moved up to the eighteenth position of the starting grid.
