Malaysian GP. 2nd qualifying practice

Fonsi Nieto clinches his height pole of the season
Toni Elias is third in the 250, as Pedrosa in the 125 despite a crash. Rossi and Ukawa are pushed back from the first row in the final instants.
Tohru Ukawa, who yesterday had finished in the lead after the first timed session and had been fastest in this mornings free practice, was not angry after the result of this afternoons practice, where he took sixth place of the starting grid, saying that his bike has improved a lot with regard to Friday morning and that he has found a good set-up for the race. His team-mate Valentino Rossi, second after the first qualifying session, doesnt seem to be in the same condition, and his eighth place on the grid is only a reflection of the problems he has been suffering during the whole weekend. Tomorrow mornings free practice will be the last chance for Valentino to find the right set-up for his bike allowing him to fight for the victory in the race. A last breathtaking and perfect lap allowed the Repsol rider Fonsi Nieto to take his eighth pole of the season in the 250cc and the tenth of his sports career. Toni Elias, first qualified after yesterdays official practice session, was overtaken at the end of the session, first by Melandri and later by his team-mate Nieto. A crash only ten minutes before the end of the second qualifying session of the 125cc hindered Dani Pedrosa from fighting for the pole, which was finally taken by the Frenchman Vincent. Danis heavy and spectacular crash has fortunately not had any physical consequences for him and Pedrosa will be able to start tomorrow from the first row of the grid after setting the third fastest time. His team-mate Joan Olivé, still having problems with the settings, was again sixteenth fastest this afternoon and will start tomorrow from the fourth row of the starting grid.
