The World Championship lands in England with Valentino Rossi as firm leader in the MotoGP class
Fonsi Nieto is second, eight points away from the leader in the 250 and Dani Pedrosa second in the 125 twenty points away from Poggiali
A consolidated leader in the MotoGP class and two provisional second places in the overall classifications of the 250cc and 125cc is the balance of the 2002 World Championship for the Repsol riders, now that it has reached the middle. In the MotoGP class the Repsol Honda team has proven its superiority in all of the seven races held, taking all victories. Six wins for Valentino Rossi and one for his team-mate Tohru Ukawa have lead these riders to be on the first and second place of the overall Championship classification up to now. In the 250cc the fight is much more even and the difference between Marco Melandri, leader after the Dutch Grand Prix, and the Repsol rider Fonsi Nieto is of only eight points. Fonsi didnt make a good race in Holland and lost the provisional leadership of the category, a position that he will obviously try to get back this weekend in England. The excellent race made by the newly arrived Toni Elias won everybodys attention in Holland. His good driving skills on the Aprilia and the fast adaptation process have turned him to be one of the protagonists of the category. In England, Toni hopes to be able to move another step forward with a further good result.  In the 125cc Dani Pedrosa managed to get his first World Championship win in Holland, a victory that will probably encourage Alberto Puigs young pupil. England may be an inflection point, where we will be able to see how far Pedrosa can get and if he will be able to continue preventing the series of wins of the current leader of the overall classification, the Gilera rider Manuel Poggiali. His team-mate Joan Olivé, third in Holland, will be another protagonist of the race, monopolizing a great deal of attention in this Grand Prix. After his first World Championship podium, Olivé will try to follow this line of results.
