So I was wrong, I did not see a new Dani at the Sachsenring, but the Dani that surprised me in 2004 and 2005 in 250cc. A Dani who enjoyed riding the bike, a rider who went for broke when it was necessary to dominate his rivals. This Sunday nobody was at the same level as him, he did not have a dogfight with anybody and he beat them all. He even beat the clock; lowering last year`s race time by over six seconds.
We arrived in Germany eager to make up for the most recent bad result. The Sachsenring is a short circuit where the top speed is not so important. But where the power delivery, the set up on the chassis and using the best tyres are all vital points in the preparation. All these factors can influence the race result, and this is just what happened owing to the high track temperature.
We sacrificed a large part of the training sessions to try out different set ups on the bikes so as to find a solution to the problems Dani was encountering. It was during the timed session on the Saturday afternoon when we found the best bike, and after that we began to believe that something good could happen on the Sunday. Even so, in the free session in the morning, he rode the two bikes to eliminate a small doubt that he had on the set up.
The race went perfectly and he decided to maintain a pace that was low and constant so that he did not give any other rider a chance to snatch his long hoped for victory.
All the team worked 150% in this race so that Dani could get this good result. We have only taken one step forward; the next race is at a circuit that is quite similar to this one and we see it as a good chance for us.
Regarding Dani, although he seems cold and serious, he needs the support of all of us to carry on improving. This triumph was also for all of you who have supported him after a year without a win.
THANKS.
