Laia Sanz, World Championship runner up 2007

A mistake on the first lap of the circuit during the second and final round of the Women`s World Trial Championship, held this afternoon Friday on the Isle of Man, stopped the Montesa rider breaking the tie of seven world titles that she still shares with Dougie Lampkin and Jordi Tarrés, two legends in the history of this sport. Laia Sanz ended the championship equal on points with Iris Krämer, but the tiebreak formula, which benefits the winner of the final round means that the German rider is the title holder.
Laia Sanz conquered the first of her seven world titles in 2000. This season she won the first round held in Kramolin (Czech Republic) but the cancellation of what would have been the second of the three rounds initially scheduled (Spa-Francorchamps, 22nd September) meant that the final outcome was an all or nothing affair. Laia Sanz I am very disappointed because, just like the previous seasons, I had set myself the target of winning the world title. This makes me feel bad for the team too, who I could have given another success to add to those that my teammate Toni Bou had won in the World outdoor and indoor championships along with the world manufacturer`s title won by Montesa. What happened was simply something that has always made me be cautious and not to take anything for granted beforehand. In a zone I managed to keep my balance but the front wheel went over the limit and I got a 5 point penalty, a penaty that was impossible to claw back on a circuit as easy as this one. If I had put a foot on the ground to make sure it is possible that the result would have been different and I would be celebrating a win. But, well, this is part and parcel of this sport and from now on I will just have to start a new chapter in my career and think positively about getting the title back next year. >> Classification of UK Trial Round 1.
