Toni Bou adds a new victory in the Madrid Indoor Trial

The Repsol Montesa Honda rider, Toni Bou, has won the Comunidad de Madrid Indoor Trial, the fourth and penultimate test in the World Championship, held this Saturday at the Palacio de Deportes in the Spanish capital. With this new win, the third in the present edition of the event, the Repsol rider consolidates his position as leader of the overall standings and takes a leap forward in his bid to renew his title for the fourth year running. To do this, all he needs to do is finish in the top four in the decisive test that will be held in Palma de Mallorca, on 27 March.

Toni Bou resolved the qualifying round without a single penalty point and he also achieved the best score in the semi-final, with two points, four less than his nearest rival. His Repsol team-mate, Takahisa Fujinami, went out in this stage of the competition after being penalised eight points, one more than in the qualifying. With one point less, the Japanese rider would have gone through to the final for the second time running.

Toni Bou
“It has been a very important win and with added-value, as Adam [Raga] has taken three points off my nearest rival, so I’m very happy. As regards the title, my situation is more favourable, but the championship is not over yet and there are still twenty points to play for. In a championship with just five tests, you cannot make any mistakes and this means that you are always under maximum pressure. It’s obvious that in Majorca we will again be under a lot of pressure”.

Takahisa Fujinami
“I imagine that the crowd will be happy with the show, but I’m not at all happy with my result. I still don’t like these regulations. Today, I missed the final by just one point and I lost a new chance to be on the podium by the minimum difference. I don’t want to finish the championship without standing on the podium, so I’ll be forced to sharpen up in Majorca”.
