Victory for Takahisa Fujinami in Great Britain

The rider of the Repsol Montesa Honda team, Takahisa Fujinami was the winner of the second day of the Trial British Grand Prix which this Sunday kicked off the second half of the World Championships for this speciality.  This win – the second of the season for the Japanese rider  – and the third position of yesterday’s event places Fujinami only one point from second place in the competition’s overall standings.

His team-mate Toni Bou, third on this occasion, has made the most of these two competition days on the always selective Scottish terrain.  Arriving with an 8 point advantage over his closest rival and, with his win of yesterday and presence on the podium this Sunday, leaves having doubled this score and consolidated the leadership of the World Championship which has four more events before drawing to an end.

The next World Championship point-scoring event will take place on 11th July at the French venue of Saint Michel de Maurienne.

Toni Bou:
“The outcome of these two days is great.  I could have won both days but today I didn’t have a good second round; physically I felt better than yesterday but, even so, I felt tired in that second round.  That aside, the determining factors were my mistakes in zones two, three and eleven.  I’m not going to complain, I didn’t think I would leave here with so many points to my advantage.  It’s also very important to know that I’m not going to go out first in the next event.”

Takahisa Fujinami:
“I started very well, with the same confidence I finished yesterday and in the second round I felt even better.  The first zones were very difficult and I went through them well.  I felt a bit of pressure at the last minute as, when I rode the last two zones it was raining hard, I knew that I was ahead and the win was at stake.  I’m very happy to have won and for the overall result from these two days, as much for my team as for myself.  The only problem is that, having won, I’ll be going out first at the next event and that always makes things more problematic.”
