Sixth win of the season for Toni Bou

The Repsol Montesa Honda Team rider has won today at the ninth and third from last point-scoring event, held in San Marino, and has increased his advantage at the head of the leader board to 30.  With this outstanding score, Toni Bou only needs to finish fifth at the Italian Grand Prix (next Sunday, the 25th, in Foppolo) to again win the top prize.

After finishing the first run of the 15 zones, Toni Bou rode a masterly second round with considerable flair which he completed with only one penalty point and secured himself his sixth victory in the current World Championships, the 30th of his track record.

His team-mate, Takahisa Fujinami, finished fifth and remains second on the leader board.  Another Repsol rider, Laia Sanz, finished sixteenth in the Junior class, left out of the points by a minimal amount.  In the brand section, Montesa won its thirteenth title this weekend, the fifth in a row with the four-stroke Cota 4RT.

“It´s been quite an easy trial but to ride out before the others always makes things more difficult.  Despite some small mistakes, everything went very well for us and I have to admit that the day has been perfect, with the brand title for Montesa and a lead for me which I’ve never had with two events to go, making my position for winning the title again very favourable.  However, it is still too early to celebrate victory or take things for granted.  If all goes well, that will be next Sunday, two days afterwards I’m planning to start my holidays and I really would love to be able to go away with the title in my hands.”

“Following a win and a second place, it’s been hard to finish fifth.  Things didn’t go well for me today and I went wrong.  There’s nothing else to say, I wasn’t even affected by the injury to my right foot from last Sunday.  It’s been a great day for Montesa and Toni, but not for me.  There are still two events left and I’m going to give it my all to secure runner-up as I think Toni is untouchable now.”
