Toni Bou ended the Portuguese Trial Grand Prix as the winner, a round which was over just one day unlike the recent Ireland GP. The Repsol rider dominated the two rounds over a varied and technically interesting circuit, which combined wet and totally dry sections. This result means that he is now alone at the top of the overall classification.
Bou finished the first lap with a four point advantage over his nearest rival, and on the second lap he wrapped up the victory by being the only rider without any penalty points. His teammate, Takahisa Fujinami, was not in such fine form and had to make do with sixth place. Even so the Japanese rider contributed to another triumph for the Repsol Montesa – HRC team which increased its lead at the top of the constructor`s leaderboard.
The next round of the World Trial Championship is a two day event and will take place on 16th – 17th May in Carlisle (UK).
Toni Bou:
“I felt very comfortable on the bike, although this did not mean that I did not have to suffer, because I think it has been quite an easy trial. We all know that in these conditions you always run the risk of making a mistake that may cost you the victory because you can never make up the ground you lose. This victory is very important since it means I have broken the tie in the overall and move into the lead. Adam [Raga] is very strong, today we saw it again, and I do not have the slightest doubt that we are going to have to work to the best of our ability the rest of the season”.
