The Repsol rider, Toni Bou, stays at the top of the overall in the World Trial Championship after having occupied 3rd position in the eighth round held today. Winner of the previous six rounds, and with just three left, the podium finish in the town of Barzio in Italy today, leaves the Repsol rider with a lead of 14 point over his closest rival.
His teamate, Takahisa Fujinami, was also in the fight for victory today, he was in the lead at the end of the first lap but a few mistakes towards the end ruined his high hopes. The Japanese rider finished 2nd for the third consecutive time, a result that has taken him up to 3rd in the overall.
Next weekend the World Trial Championship travels to La Rabassa (Andorra) where Laia Sanz will begin her battle to win what will be her 9th world title on the Saturday, the following day Toni Bou will defend his lead in the ninth and second to last round this season.
Toni Bou
“I made some amazing mistakes on the first lap and on the second I worked hard to get the situation a bit more under control, as things were not exactly going well. Not only has my winning run come to an end but this was also my worst result this season. Even so, at this point of the championship and with the way things have panned out, I reckon that finishing 3rd is not too bad.”
Takahisa Fujinami
“I don´t know what happened, but the truth is thatin the last few zones I made some mistakes that I should not have, and the victory got away from me. In the last round in Japan I lost out by the smallest possible difference and today it was also within my reach. Finishing 2nd is fine but obviously this time I am not satisfied either”.
