The Repsol riders Toni Bou and Takahisa Fujinami got their second one-two of the weekend for the Repsol Montesa-HRC team, occupying the first two places on the two days of the Japanese Trial GP, the seventh round of the World Championship. Toni Bou, with his sixth consecutive victory today, has extended the lead he has at the top of the overall standings to 19 points, whilst Takahisa Fujinami climbed one place in the overall and is now fourth.
Bou and Fujinami had a tough battle for the victory today and the day ended with both riders tied on 20 points. The reigning champion was declared the winner as he got through more zones without being penalised, 23, one more than his teammate, leader at the end of the first lap.
The eighth round of the World Trial Championship will be held on 21st June in Barzio (Italy).
Toni Bou
“Another fantastic result for the team and for me, at the home of Honda. It was not at all easy to win today as I began badly, with a fiasco and another couple of penalty points that I could have avoided getting. After that my situation improved on the zones that had less adherence than yesterday, whilst my rivals were penalised more. Things got better until I was out in front and got this tight victory. My advantage as leader in the overall is a good one, but with four rounds ahead of us it is nowhere near being definitive. I know perfectly well that we have to carry on at this level and as always we take each race as it comes”.
Takahisa Fujinami
“Yesterday I was satisfied with my result and today, on the other hand I feel very sad for having missed out on the victory because of a single zero. I wanted to win on my home soil, in front of my compatriots and at the home of Honda-HRC but it was not to be. Toni was a bit finer and even though it was very close he won. The only thing that consoles me is the team result which was unbeatable”.
