Jaime Alguersuari finishes ninth in spite of mechanical problems

The fifth round of the World Series 3.5 ended with two more valuable points for Jaime Alguersuari after the second race held today at the British circuit of Silverstone. The Repsol driver finished in a deserved and hard-earned 9th position, in spite of a collision after a coupleof laps, this almost left him out of the race. Even with the steeering on his car bent the Repsol driver managed to continue, win points and gain some valuable experience.

Alguersuari began from 9th on the grid again, owing to his classification in yesterday`s Super Pole, and he got off to another good start overtaking one rival. However, when he tried to do the same on the third lap he hit Daniel Move and the steering was damaged, the result was that he dropped down one place, this meant that he spent the rest of the race fighting just to stay on the track rather than trying to get a better result.

This incident also messed up the obligatory tyre change, done on the 9th lap, although he was able to go back out without any setbacks and defend his position to the end of the race, arriving 35 seconds behind the winner, the Frenchman Charles Pic. Now that the halfway stage of the championship has passed there are now four more rounds left and the Repsol driver is 8th with 30 points. The next race for the F1 reserve driver is on 18th July at the legendary circuit of Le Mans in France.

“I think we put in another quite good race, above all taking into account that I started in 9th position. At the beginning I was faster than Daniel Move the driver in front of me, and I tried to overtake him on corner 8. We hit each other and the steeering got a bit bent. From then on I felI back one position and the car was really hard to drive with the steering bent. It was really hard just trying to finish the race. My objective to finish among the top five changed to try and finish the race however I could. I drove the best I was able and I made a pit-stop, that went quite well. Luckily we finished in the same position we had started in and so I am pleased. There is still work to be done, above all what we most have to improve is the Super Pole. We will everything that is technically possible to solve this problem.”
