Good and bad luck for Jaime Alguersuari at the Hungaroring

The two races held at the Hungaroring brought two sides of the same coin for Jaime Alguersuari. The Repsol driver overtook four cars at the start of the first race to finish 5th, but today he was not able to win any more points. In spite of being 3rd at one point but when the Safety car came out he fell back to 10th position, before being penalised, in the end this relegated him to 16th place.

First race
In yesterday afternoon`s race, the sixth of the season after rounds in Barcelona, Spa, and Monaco, Jaime Alguersuari was 5th after overtaking four rivals at the start. He was able to keep the chasing cars under control and in spite of the Safety car coming out he held onto his position until the chequered flag, in a race that was held without pit stops. The Repsol driver finished 5.728 seconds behind the winner, the Malaysian Fairuz Fauzy, the rookie`s first.

Second race
The Repsol driver once again started in 9th place (this was the first that did not use the inverted classification of the Superpole), and just like yesterday a good start moved him up two places. He was 6th thanks to a retirement after a rival`s car brokedown, and after fighting with Hartley moved into 5th position. But the two had touched when passing and the New Zealander went off the track, that is why at the end of the race Alguersuari was given a  25 second penalty.

This means he lost the point awarded to the driver finishing in 10th position, and what is more the race took an unexpected turn at the halfway mark when the Safety car came out. At that moment the Repsol driver was third, but the chasing group rebunched and the cars that had already changed their tyres had an unexpected advantage, and so the Italian Pasquale Di Sabatino got the victory.

Jaime Alguersuari
First race
“The first practice today went very well, but we did not know how to read the track, and in the second we did not have the same luck. It is a pity that we used a wrong set up in  the qualification, because later in the race the car went great, as you could see. If we start at the front a victory is possible. As is becoming normal I started down the field and had to fight back; I started the race 9th and was able to finish 5th. The champioship is wide open and we will continue to work to make the car better and be up with the leaders.”

Second race

“The same thing that happened to me in the second race Barcelona happened to me here. I was 3rd and when the Safety car came out I could not change my tyres. In this champioship if you do not take your chances you are lost. I gave it my best shot today. We do not deserve what happened to us today”.
