Baja Spain-Aragón

The Baja Spain-Aragon is the next challenge for Marc Coma

The Repsol rider will try to secure in the Monegros Desert his third title in the most prestigious Spanish round of the specialty

Tomorrow Friday, the Motorland Aragón facilities will held the Prologue stage of the XXVIII edition of the Baja Spain-Aragon, the start of the classical Spanish round that on Saturday and Sunday will run through the Monegros Desert. In the bikes category, Marc Coma is once again one of the favourites, after his victories in the 2004 and 2008 editions and his win this year in the Dakar and the Abu Dhabi and Sardinia Rallies.

The Repsol rider will face again the fast and demanding route of the round, that will surpass again the 1000 kilometres, 610 of them timed. There will be to stages every day, of 130 and 175 kilometres in a demanding and spectacular route through the Monegros area, located north of Zaragoza, as a remembrance of the first edition of this epic race.

With a KTM 530 EXC, a pure-bred endurance bike, instead of the 450 Rally —his usual bike for the desert races—, the Repsol rider will face another 31 competitors, among them the current champion of this race, Marc Guasch, and Gerard Farrés, former team mate and twice winner of the race.

Marc Coma
“The Baja was not in our original plans for the season, but as I did not go to the Tunisia Rally I spent too long without competing. This is a race that is a little out of our speciality, as there is no navigation and it is always at sprint pace, with all the route signalled with arrows. But this is the most important race of this kind in all Europe and I had not taken part in it for two years, I am happy to be back here again. This year we will go to the north of Zaragoza, an area where I have never competed, but they are still the Monegros, the landscape will not change too much from the one we usually see”.
