The Repsol rider achieved yesterday his 16th consecutive in the X-Trial World Championship and his team mate, Takahisa Fujinami, accompanied him in the podium.
Toni Bou finished yesterday night in Paris his sixth X-Trial World Championship, who he had already mathematically secured two weeks ago in Milan, with the triumph in the Paris Indoor Trial, who put an end to the Championship on Saturday. It was the sixteenth consecutive victory of the Repsol rider in the Trial Indoor World Championship in a night where his team mate, Takahisa Fujinami, was third.
The Repsol Montesa Honda rider won the seven rounds of this year’s calendar, took the victory in six rounds in the previous edition and won too in four of the five rounds held in 2010. Since he started to compete in the Indoor World Championship in 2007, Toni Bou has taken part in 36 rounds —always as a Repsol rider— and took 29 wins and 6 second places.
At the Palais Omnisports in París-Bercy, which he visited for the first time, Bou faced a round featuring difficult zones. He closed the semi-final with eight points less than his closest rival and finished his performance with an unforgettable finale.
Takahisa Fujinami completed the Indoor season with another podium after an exciting duel both in the semi-final as in the final round. This was the third time in the season that the Japanese rider finished in the top three.
Toni Bou
“It was amazing. It was the first time I competed in Paris and I really wanted to win in this impressive stage. But it was not only that I was willing to get a victory here, but also to leave behind the crash I had in Milan. I wanted to forget it as soon as possible and I did it. With the Championship title already secured, I was able to compete without pressure and I enjoyed a lot the zones, that at the beginning did not seem very difficult, but they were very complicated. It was a night to celebrate and I am aware that very few times a victory can be enjoyed as I did today”.
Takahisa Fujinami
“Finishing the Championship with a podium is very satisfactory for me. Even more when to achieve it I had to fight hard, both in the semi-final and in the final, as the differences were very small. It was my third podium in a season where I only failed to get to the final in one round. I think I did a very consistent Championship, I’m 32, but I felt young and strong”.
