This past Wednesday, the Prince of Asturias inaugurated the expanded Repsol refinery in Cartagena, alongside Repsol President Antonio Brufau and Industry Minister José Manuel Soria. To cap a special week in Cartagena, riders Dani Pedrosa and Marc Márquez atended a spectacular trials exhibition by Toni Bou and Takahisa Fujinami at the refinery presentation alongside thousands of spectators.
The party also included a formation flying demonstration by the Equipo Repsol de Vuelo Acrobático team and an autograph session with all the riders. The events were organised to celebrate the amplification of the refinery –the highest investment project in Spanish history with backing of 3200 million euros.
The Cartagena refinery is the first in the Iberian Peninsula and has been expanded over 60 hectares and 30 units, placing it top in Europe in terms of efficiency and sustainability. The Repsol industrial complex in Cartagena has generated 800 direct jobs, 800 indirect positions and 8000 induced jobs.

“We received a really warm welcome and were treated phenomenally by the spectators. We were able to watch another exhibition from our trials guys, Toni (Bou) and Fujinami, and from the stunt flying team. This is the first time that I’ve been to Cartagena and it was really nice. It was a fun Sunday”.

“The experience was really great and it was a different day with the fans at the amplification presentation for the Repsol refinery. It was a fun day and we were able to check out Toni Bou, Fujinami and the Repsol pilots. Spending a day with fans is great .especially before the Spanish Grand Prix.”
