Double for Bou despite difficulties

The Repsol rider, with his left leg injured, achieved in Peñarroya his seventh consecutive victory in the World Championship. Takahisa Fujinami finished just out of the podium.

On Sunday finished in Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo (Córdoba) the Spanish Trial Grand Prix with yet another victory for Toni Bou in the FIM Trial World Championship. After finishing on the first step of the podium in the first day, the Repsol rider got over an injury he received yesterday to sign a crushing victory. His team mate, Takahisa Fujinami, classified fourth after a difficult day.

The injuries suffered yesterday by the Repsol riders in the first day of the Spanish Trial Grand Prix did not affect Toni Bou and Takahisa Fujinami’s results in the second day. The rider from Piera, injured in the femoral biceps of his left leg, achieved a great victory, the seventh this season, all of them consecutive. The Repsol rider finished with less than half the points of his closest rival and increased to 41 points his advantage in the lead of the World Championship.

His team mate at the Repsol Montesa Honda Team, Takahisa Fujinami, also had to get over the intense pain in the little finger of his right hand. In the first lap of the route he rode bravely, while in the second lap he was forced to manage his strength. Under those conditions, the fourth position achieved by the Japanese rider tasted like a victory.

The ninth and tenth rounds of the Trial World Championship will be held next Saturday and Sunday, June 23rd and 24th, in Sant Julià de Lòria (Andorra).

Toni Bou

“In these situations is when you appreciate more the team spirit. I thank all the team for their support, all of them. The pain did not prevent me from riding in this round where it was crucial to avoid any mistakes, although I am sure that the injury was getting worse and, against my will, I will have to rest for a few days. This success was very important for the Championship. In that sense, the weekend was perfect”.

Takahisa Fujinami
“I had a difficult day, due to pain and lack of sense of touch. In the first lap I did my best, but then I was forced to be cautious. Under these conditions, finishing fourth was incredible and I’m obviously very satisfied with this result, which for me is as valuable as a win”.
