The Repsol rider has a 40-point advantage in the overall standings after finishing the second day of the Andorran Trial in fourth position. His team mate, Takahisa Fujinami, was fifth.
After the win he achieved yesterday in the first day of the Andorran Trial —his eighth consecutive victory—, Toni Bou finished fourth in the very close second round held today. With this result the Repsol rider adds 13 valuable points that allow him to keep a comfortable lead in the World Championship’s standings. His team mate, Takahisa Fujinami, finished just behind the rider from Piera, signing the fifth position.
Toni Bou started his performance in Andorra by setting the best score in the first lap on Sunday. But a couple of mistakes in the second lap left him outside the podium for the first time this season, despite finishing only 5 points behind the leader. The good results he had had until now —eight wins, one second place and a fourth— allow the Repsol rider to face the last part of the World Championship with a comfortable advantage of 40 points, three rounds before the end of the series.
Finishing behind Bou, Takahisa Fujinami closed his participation in the second day of the Andorran Trial with a fifth place that keeps him in the same position in the Championship. The Japanese rider is 12 points behind the fourth placed, Adam Raga, and 15 behind the third, Albert Cabestany.
The next round of the Championship will be the Italian Trial, that will take place on July the 8th in the city of Santo Stefano d’Aveto.
Toni Bou
“Today’s result is a sign that our rivals are strong and don’t forgive any mistake. It was an easy trial, of the type I don’t like, and as always under these conditions mistakes are even more important. In the second lap I made two mistakes and then I was outside the podium, as simple as that. The important thing is that with the eight victories in the previous rounds we have a good margin to face the last part of the championship. We will keep working in our usual way and we will try to be careful with the injuries”.
Takahisa Fujinami
“Contrary to yesterday, today I cannot be satisfied. The Trial was similar as the one yesterday, maybe a bit more difficult, but it didn’t allow to recover points received due to mistakes. I lost some points here and there while my rivals were more consistent. I did my best, but the result doesn’t show it”.
