Márquez makes prudent start at Misano

El Repsol rider only uses second session due to intermittent rain and scarce grip on track.

The first practice sessions for the San Marino GP at the Misano World Circuit —which from this year takes the name of Marco Simoncelli in honour of the late Italian rider— allowed for few conclusions to be taken. With intermittent rain and little grip on track, Marc Márquez and his team preferred to sit out the first session. He later completed 16 laps in the afternoon.

Regaining his feel for the track at which he has won for the past two years, Márquez dedicated 45 minutes to riding with wet weather settings made to his bike at the scene of this weekend’s race. The Repsol rider stopped the clock at 1’53.176, 1.302 seconds off the fastest time from Belgian rider Xavier Simeon.

“It has been a bit of a strange day, because of the variable track conditions. We hope that the times today are of no consequence, as everything is pointing to a dry race on Sunday. We decided not to go out in the morning because we thought that one wet session would be sufficient. Everything went as planned and that’s why we went out in the second session. We put in some laps to get familiar with the track again, and with the track after two weeks off. It went well.”
