Repsol rider clocks second fastest time in qualifying and suffers a small crash.
Marc Márquez rode his last qualifying session in Moto2 today, ahead of his move up to the premier class. The Repsol rider suffered two minor crashes, one in each session, although he still took the second fastest time of the day. Despite this, the Spaniard will start tomorrow from the back of the grid after being sanctioned yesterday by Race Direction.
In the first session of the day, Marc Márquez started with a good feeling, setting times lap after lap that kept him amongst the fastest riders in qualifying. However, in his third outing the double World Champion fell at Turn 8, ending his participation in the session with only six minutes remaining. However, the Repsol rider achieved fourth overall with a time of 1’36.333.
In the afternoon, Márquez was back on track to contest his final qualifying session in the category. In full contention for pole position, the Repsol rider again suffered a crash (also without consequence), this time at Turn 2. That did not stop him from getting back on his bike and continuing his fight for the best time. With just four minutes remaining, Márquez had time to ride three laps and, at the last moment, take second position.

“Today we had a good session, but it was a shame to crash at the end. When I tried to push a bit I fell, both in the morning and in the afternoon. The important thing is that we know where to improve, although we also know that tomorrow we will start in last thanks to the penalty. Everyone talks to me about comebacks, but the World Championship is already decided. Obviously we will not be cruising on the track, but tomorrow I will not risk as much as on other occasions, as there is only one race at stake. It’s not worth doing anything crazy.”
