Fabio Quartararo in Moto3, Roman Ramos in Moto2 and Xavi Fores in Stock Extreme achieve the CEV Repsol crowns in Jerez.
The last round of the CEV Repsol that was held today at the Jerez Circuit revealed the names of its three Champions after an exciting day. Against all odds, French Fabio Quartararo took the Moto3 title at only 14 years old. In Moto2 and Stock Extreme, the favourites -Roman Ramos and Xavi Fores-, secured the titles in their respective categories.
Moto3
The surprise of the day arrived in the smallest displacement class. French rider Fabio Quartararo secured the Moto3 CEV Repsol title in his first year in the Championship. Quartararo, who won the last three rounds, benefited from the incidents suffered by the favourite contenders –a crash for Maria Herrera and a technical failure for Alejandro Medina. After this result and at only 14 years-old, the French rider took the national Moto3 title in his first year at the CEV Repsol and only by one point over Marcos Ramirez, second.
Moto2
In the intermediate class, Roman Ramos used the calculator to secure the title in a race where victory went for the fourth time this season to his main rival for the title -Alex Mariñelarena-, who finished first ahead of Malaysia’s Hafyzh Syahrin. After being on the podium the whole season, today Roman Ramos had enough with his fifth place to take his first CEV Repsol Title thanks to his 20-point advantage.
Stock Extreme
In the first of the two Stock Extreme races, Carmelo Morales and Ivan Silva fought hard to prevent Xavi Fores to secure the title in his first chance. The three riders offered an exciting battle won in the end by Carmelo Morales, followed by Fores and Silva. The latter was penalized with 1 position due to a hit with Morales, so the third position went to Kenny Noyes.
In the last race, Fores was able to finish second behind Ivan Silva and Carmelo Morales did not finish due to a crash. With this new triumph, Fores achieved his second CEV Repsol title –he won the first in 2010– and adds it to the European Championship he won last October in Albacete.

“I’m very, very happy! I didn’t know I had won, because when I saw Monlau’s board indicating their rider was second, I thought: “Maria [Herrera] took the title”, but Adrian [Martin] told me it meant Marcos [Ramirez] and then is when I realized I was the Champion. I didn’t expect it because I crashed in the two races in Albacete and I thought that then everything was lost. But I trained hard and we were able to be first. I’m so happy”.

“We arrived in Jerez with quite far away from Roman [Ramos], 20 points behind, and our main objective was to win the race and wait for Roman to make a mistake. In this race he showed his intelligence in the battle for the Championship. I’m very happy to finish the year like this. We fought for victory in many of the races, we battle for the title until the very end and the team deserves it. I am very thankful for the support my sponsors have given me the whole year and for giving me the opportunities I’ve had. I congratulate Roman for his good season and also Hafizh [Syahrin], as they both were very strong”.
Roman Ramos, Moto2 Champion >> Audio
“We fought hard the whole season and the aim today was to gather the points we needed for the Championship and avoid the fight. The race was very long for me, as I wasn’t focused and didn’t set a good pace, but in the end we were able to achieve the title, which is what we wanted. I want to congratulate all four, because they did a great race, they were very strong the whole season and they made things very difficult for me. I hope we can fight again for the Championship next year”.

“I had a good start, but I didn’t feel comfortable with the tyres and I decided not to push. When I caught up with Fores were in a group with Ivan [Silva] and we touched. I thought I wouldn’t be on the podium, because the clutch lever was pushed and I had to ride in a quite strange way, but I did some very good laps and I was able to catch them again 6 laps before the end. I am very happy with the team, because the bike went very well. Let’s see if we can complete the weekend in the second race. We need to win. The Championship title doesn’t depend on us; we’d need a miracle, but let’s see how it goes”.

“I could do no more. I used my strength, trying to brake late and I had a lot of confidence on the front of my bike. Carmelo [Morales] tried to overtake me three or four times, but I noticed that, if I braked well, it would be very difficult for him to pass me. In his last attempt, he crashed. Of course, I’m not happy about it, but if he hadn’t crashed, he would have won the race. I was penalized with a position in the first race and I respect this decision, but I don’t understand it. This year there were very similar moves and in this case we only touched and it didn’t affect the result. This penalty costs me the runner-up position”.
Xavi Fores, Stock Extreme Champion >> Audio
“At the beginning I was behind Carmelo [Morales], I tried to pass him but I couldn’t and then Kenny [Noyes] overtook us both. In the second lap he had an off and I was a bit scared because I thought he might come back pushing, but it didn’t happen. I took the first place and started to push, as I wanted to escape from the group to avoid problems. When I saw that it was only the three of us, I reduced a bit and let Carmelo and Ivan [Silva] pass so that I could keep the third place. I saw Carmelo’s crash when he was trying to overtake Ivan and I let all the tension go screaming through the helmet, because with that result I was already Champion. I didn’t take any risks and settled for the second place. I’m happy that Ivan won this race, because as he said, I think the penalty in the first race was too harsh. In the end everything went well for me, we’re Spanish Champions and if someone would have told me that in Summer I wouldn’t have believed it, but here we are. I thank all the team and the sponsors for their help”.
