Second place for Toni Bou

The Repsol Honda Team rider was second in the second day of the European Trial GP held in Corsica. His team mate Takahisa Fujinami finished sixth.

Toni Bou had a complicated day at Île Rousse, Corsica, in the third Grand Prix of the season, where he finished second. Despite leading the first lap today, two mistakes on the selective zones, again with a very low level, punished the Repsol Honda Team rider. Bou finally took the second step of the podium in a round where his team mate Takahisa Fujinami, was sixth.

After a first day branded by the disqualification off all the World Pro Class rider, today the several times World Champion started the day well, setting the best score after the first lap, followed closely by Adam Raga. In the second lap, the Repsol rider made two mistakes that placed him in second position and now he holds that same place in the World Championship, two points behind Raga.

Takahisa Fujinami did not feel comfortable in zones that do not suit the Repsol Honda Team Japanese rider’s style. He was able to recover from some mistakes in the first lap during the second, but the bad start of the last lap hindered his recovery. In the end he finished in sixth position, among a fierce battle for the positions out of the podium. Despite this result, Fujinami keeps his third place in the Championship.

The next round of the Trial World Championship will be the Italian Grand Prix, that will have only one day, next Sunday, June 1st, in Alagna Valsesia, in the Italian region of Piedmont, near the Swiss border.

Toni Bou:

“It was a difficult day for me. Adam [Raga] and I are very close and to set the difference is complicated with such easy zones as the ones in this trial. Today I made two mistakes in the second lap that cost me the race. Failing under these conditions is very difficult to recover. Today there was a lot of pressure, I couldn’t fail. I hope that the Italian round is more complicated, with a good level, and that it allows me to achieve my objective of being ahead of Adam and recover the lead”.

Takahisa Fujinami:

“I had to deal with a terrain I don’t like and I didn’t feel comfortable the whole weekend. It reminded me a lot of the indoor and it was difficult to achieve a good result. I try to be motivated at the end of the first lap and the second went much better, but in the last lap I had a very bad start, with three bad results that were very complicated to recover. I did some things well and others very badly. Now I need to forget about this result and hope that next weekend in Italy the zones are more natural”.
