Toni Bou achieves his eighth Trial World Title

The Repsol Honda Team rider secured today, in the last round of the Trial World Championship that was held in Arnedo, his eighth Outdoor World Championship and became the most successful rider with 16 titles.

Toni Bou took today his eighth Outdoor World Championship, beating in number of titles the records of legendary riders such as Jordi Tarres and Dougie Lampkin. After his victory yesterday, Toni Bou was much more relaxed and knew when he needed to push to attain his final objective. The advantage of 12 points in the championship standings before the last race allowed him to finish up to eighth and still secure the title..

That is why Bou was able to ride with little pressure and led the race comfortably. He set the best score in the three laps of the race, finishing again in first place and celebrating his double success, victory and world title.

Takahisa Fujinami fought to improve his position in the standings, but he was not able to gather more points than Jeroni Fajardo. The Japanese rider finished fifth and also ended the season in the fifth overall place.

The Repsol Honda Team achieved eight victories this season: seventh times it was Toni Bou the one to take the highest step of the podium, while in the first round of the season in Australia, it was Takahisa Fujinami who achieved his 32nd victory.

Toni Bou – 1st, 19 points

“Yesterday it was a crucial day and today, when I won the eighth title by winning the race, the feeling was of extreme happiness. I couldn’t ask for more! This year we entered HRC and I was worried I might lose the title, but we started our partnership in an excellent way. Today my riding style was different, as I was able to focus on enjoying the race and also on winning. The first title is the best, because it’s the first time you’re the World Champion and you don’t know if you’ll ever be again. But the eighth is also very special because it’s the 8th and also because my rival made things very difficult for me during the whole season. As a rider, I think that I can improve”.

Takahisa Fujinami – 5th, 61 points

“I didn’t have a great start, as I made an inexplicable mistake in the second zone, which was very easy. Then I was able to focus and I enjoyed some difficult areas. I recovered my mistake in that same lap and in the second. I was able to match my closest rivals. Nevertheless, in the last lap I had two mistakes that left me with no chance to achieve my aim. I’m a bit disappointed, but I couldn’t do better. Next week I will have knee surgery and I hope ‘Fujigas’ will be back to the championship in the best shape and not at 60% as I did this year. I want to congratulate Toni Bou for his eighth title. I’m very proud of being his team mate”.
