Third consecutive double win for Toni Bou in the World Championship

The Repsol Honda rider dominated the second day of the Swedish Grand Prix and achieved his sixth win from the six rounds already held. Takahisa Fujinami finished fifth and Jaime Busto seventh.

Victory yesterday for Toni Bou and again today to finish the Swedish Grand Prix in style. A double win that the several times Champion repeated in the two previous World Championship rounds – in Japan and the Czech Republic – and that keep him as overall leader with an advantage of 28 points. His team mates, Takahisa Fujinami and Jaime Busto, finished today in fifth and seventh place, respectively.

In a trial that was anything but easy, Toni Bou started dominating from the first of the three laps. Nevertheless, Adam Raga was very close and they were tied in points after the second lap. The third and last lap was decisive and the Repsol Honda rider was able to beat his rival in the end by three points, thus taking his sixth success of the year.

After the third place he got yesterday, Takahisa Fujinami started the day by taking the second place after the first lap. But the Japanese hit his toe again during the second lap and that affected his riding, losing some points that placed him in the final fifth position, by a difference of only one point. His young team mate Jaime Busto finished the day in seventh.

The Trial World Championship continues without time to rest and next weekend will see the fourth meeting of the calendar at the British town of Nord Vue (Penrith), in the North of England, again with a double race round.

“Not a bad way to start the season! But today we had to fight hard to win the race, because Adam [Raga] was among the first and we were very close during the second lap. In the last pass over the zones I worked hard and I was able to take my sixth win, which satisfies me a lot because we put a lot of effort into it. The difference in the Championship is quite important, because winning all the races is very difficult, but thanks to the rivals exchanging the final positions, now I have an advantage of 18 points. I will keep fighting because in two-day races anything can happen and the Championship is still long.”

“I started very well in the first lap, my riding was perfect. I was fast, ahead of the rest of the riders and had few points. I really though my position was worse, so I tried to recover, but I made some consecutive mistakes. In zone 9 I hit my left foot’s toe again and it hurt a lot. In the last lap, zones 3, 4 and 5 went horribly bad. I tried to recover, but in the end I finished very close to the fourth, which is not bad, either. My knee felt well, but now I’m worried about my toe.”

Jaime Busto

“Today it went better than yesterday, I felt more comfortable and less clumsy, despite the zones being more slippery. The first lap didn’t go well, I could recover in the second, but in the third I made a mistake in an easy zone and couldn’t finish in a better position. Overall, I’m satisfied because the most important thing is to gather experience.”
