Spaniard comes close to podium finish once again, whilst Fabio Quartararo and Maria Herrera both crash out of German GP.
The Repsol Moto3 riders ended a difficult weekend with a harsh finale for Fabio Quartararo and Maria Herrera. Jorge Navarro finished in sixth place and took 10 points from Sachsenring after fighting again for a podium finish.
The race started with Danny Kent leading the way from the opening laps. Escaping alongside him was his teammate, Efren Vazquez, and behind were a group of riders who fought until the final lap for third place on the podium. In that group were Fabio Quartararo and Jorge Navarro. Maria Herrera gained five places on Lap 1 and was up into twenty-fifth.
Quartararo had moved into third in the group, but at the end of the sixth lap he crashed on the final corner. Meanwhile, Navarro continued progressing within the group, finishing fourth in that pack for sixth place. Further back, Herrera battled for twenty-third with Ana Carrasco, but both crashed out after contact on the same corner where Quartararo had fallen.
Following this Grand Prix the World Championship will now take a three-week break, before returning to action for the Indianapolis Grand Prix.

“I made a bad start, because I released the clutch too quickly and the front wheel lifted up. I lost some positions and I couldn’t ride comfortably. I had never had this problem before, but today with the new tyres the rear wheel was sliding and I couldn’t open the throttle where I should. It was a shame, because both on Friday and Saturday I had a good pace on worn tyres and thought in the race it would be easier with references from other riders. That didn’t happen and on the last corner I went wide, clipped the grass and crashed. You learn from days like this, so I will head to Indianapolis stronger.”

“It was a very hard fought race. I knew we lacked a bit of pace, unlike in Assen or Barcelona. I started well and I pushed to reach the top positions. When I was fifth or sixth, I tried to run down the laps because on the second and third sections I was finding it tough. I concentrated on continuing pushing until the end and I was once again very close to the podium. We have salvaged something from a weekend that started out quite tough, taking steps forward. We have got a good result, so I’m happy going into the break.”

“I made a good start but I saw that I was not as comfortable as in the warmup. I also started having a lot of trouble with my left shoulder and I was very uncomfortable until near the end of the race. I was in a group of six riders, riding calmly and waiting for the laps to pass to finish strong again. I think I could have done it, but unfortunately there was contact with Ana [Carrasco] with three laps to go. I hope she recovers soon, because she escaped less well off than me. I dislocated my shoulder again in the crash, although I put it back in quickly, and I also took a heavy knock to my back.”
