Repsol Honda team riders take on Indianapolis Grand Prix to start second half of the season.
• For the last 5 years, every victory in MotoGP at Indianapolis has gone to Repsol Honda Team riders.
• Marc Marquez has won the last eight times he has raced in the USA.
• Pedrosa and Marquez have two victories each at Indianapolis.
The World Championship returns after a three-week break that has given a rest to the Repsol Honda Team riders, and in which they have prepared well for the second half of the season. Both Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa completed a positive test in Misano days after their podium double in Germany, before spending another two weeks relaxing in order to get to Indianapolis this week with renewed strength. Both have won twice at Indianapolis in the last five years, in addition to another Repsol Honda triumph for Casey Stoner in 2011.
The objectives for the Repsol Moto3 riders are very different. Fabio Quartararo and Maria Herrera visit the American track for the first time and will look to regain feeling with their bikes after both crashed at Sachsenring. Jorge Navarro starts the second half of the season highly motivated, with the advantage of already knowing the circuits that lie ahead.
Free practice for the Indianapolis GP will start on Friday, with raceday on Sunday.
Marc Marquez
“It’s been great to have some time off to recuperate and recharge the batteries ready for the second half of the season. After the Misano test I went to Ibiza with some friends for a week which was fantastic, and much needed! Then we resumed our training schedule in order to prepare for the coming races. Now we are on our way to America for the Indianapolis GP. I love racing on American soil and appreciate the enthusiasm of all the fans. I like the Indy track it can be tricky with the changes in asphalt but as always we will work hard from Friday, and get back into our rhythm as quickly as possible!”
Dani Pedrosa
“I feel relaxed and ready for the second half of the season after this brief Summer break. We enjoyed a good end to the first half of the season with a good race in Germany and then a productive test in Misano. Then I headed home and enjoyed some time on Lake Geneva with some friends, taking some important time away from it all. Even though I’ve been relaxing I’ve been continuing my recuperation on my arm and then started to get back into my training to be ready for Indy this week. I’ve had pretty good results at Indy in the past so my aim is to arrive there and fight again for the victory. It can be difficult to setup the bike here with the varying grip levels so we will have to pay attention to this.”
Fabio Quartararo
“I can’t wait to start the weekend. In Germany I had a crash and that gives me even more motivation to ride at Indianapolis. I want to regain a good feeling with the bike and do well in the US, as we did at the start of the season at Austin. I hope to be fighting for victory like at Assen, because what I like is winning. To achieve this we have to work as we did at Assen and Sachsenring.”
Jorge Navarro
“After the break I am excited to get back on the bike. We have had time to rest and train. Now we go to Indianapolis, we are starting the second part of the season and I think it is going to be good for me, because I know the circuits coming up from last season. Indianapolis was also one of the circuits where I adapted very well last year: I started from the second row of the grid and it was very exciting. This time we have to carry on from the last Grands Prix, taking steps forward. The summer has been useful for reflecting; We are prepared for Indianapolis and we will try to fight in the first group, as we have done in recent races.”
Maria Herrera
“Over the last three weeks I have been working with the physio to recover from my shoulder dislocation from Germany and enjoy a little bit of a holiday. The first week I was in Valencia with my cousins, enjoying time at the beach but also doing some cycling and motorbike riding. In the end it is something that I really like as hobby and I have fun doing. Last week I was training more seriously, doing Super Motard with Alvaro [Bautista] and the truth is that it went well, so for Indy my shoulder is no excuse and I will be one hundred percent fit. I used the time to look at all the practice sessions from last year and the race, to see a little how the lines are there. It looks like a fast circuit and I like it, so we’ll see how it goes. I can’t wait to get back on the bike.”
