The several times World Champion finished on the podium after a complicated first day at Teo, Galicia. Physical problems undermine the final result for Busto and Fujinami.
After winning his ninth Trial World Championship title, Toni Bou competed today at Teo, Galicia, in the first day of the Spanish Grand Prix, last round of the season. The mistakes at the first and third lap around the twelve zones prevented the Repsol Honda Team rider from beating Adam Raga, who won today. Jaime Busto and Takahisa Fujinami finished the day in eighth and tenth place, respectively, both suffering from physical problems.
In the three passes through the 12 zones, Bou received 17 points during the first lap, 1 in the second and 11 more in the third, a result that did not allow him to defeat Adam Raga. Jaime Busto suffered intestinal problems that hampered his performance and ended in the eighth place. It was not an easy day for Takahisa Fujinami either. The back problems he is suffering since last week did not heal and affected his result, as he finished tenth.
Tomorrow, the second and last day of this Spanish Trial GP will bring the Outdoor Trial FIM World Championship season to a close.
Toni Bou
2nd – 29 points
“It was a difficult day. We had once again a race where we couldn’t afford to make mistakes, but in the first lap I failed a bit, maybe because I wasn’t as focused as needed. The second lap went well, but in the third I made some unnecessary mistake. I must admit that Adam [Raga] made it difficult for us today and, if you don’t win, a second place is always positive. Now we need to enjoy the weekend, because it’s the last race of the World Championship and this year went very well. Tomorrow I’ll try to fight for victory.”
Takahisa Fujinami
10th – 97 points
“This week I wasn’t able to train because I’ve been working with the physiotherapist to treat the back pain I suffer since last week. When I trained yesterday and this morning when I started the race I felt well, but a double step in the first zone of the day caused an impingement that left me physically weak. I didn’t have enough confidence to finish some complicated zones and the only thing I hope is to be able to recover tonight to end the year on a good note.”
Jaime Busto
8th – 88 points
“I wanted to give my all, but I think maybe something I ate yesterday made me sick. This morning I woke up sick and I couldn’t improve until the last lap, when I could finish with a somewhat decent result. It’s a pity, but I trust I’ll be able to finish the season with a great result.”
