Alonso López takes eighth at GP of The Americas

Repsol Moto3 rider finishes 1.5 seconds behind the race winner. Sergio García completes his first World Championship race in nineteenth place.

Starting from ninth, Alonso López gained three places on the opening corners and even led the race on Lap 4.

He remained in a leading group that would eventually stretch out steadily, and on Lap 10 he clocked the fastest lap of the race.

Finally, when fighting for third, contact with another rider relegated him to eighth place at the chequered flag.

Sergio García made his long awaited Grand Prix debut. Starting from the 25th place, he finished 19th.

ALONSO LÓPEZ | 8th

“I began the race very well, with a decent start that allowed me to get with the frontrunners. I could take the lead on the fourth lap, and it was a spectacular feeling. Then we lost a bit of ground to the lead riders, but towards the end I was able to recover some tenths. However, other riders came through strong and I had some bad luck, because one of them touched me when I was getting onto the back straight and I lost many positions. We are showing that little by little I am getting consistent and gaining a lot of experience and maturity.”

SERGIO GARCÍA | 19th

“I’m happy; It was my first race and we were able to finish it, but it was tough because we had not ridden much here: FP3 was cancelled and the qualifying session was in the wet. The start went well and I moved up positions. I was with the front group, but being honest, we still lacked a bit of pace and I lost contact with them soon after. We started from far back, so I took the race calmly: I wanted to finish and set a good pace. In general, it was a positive weekend because I was able to finish every session.”
