The Repsol Honda Team rider achieved another victory in the fifth race of the season that took place today in Belgium. Fujinami finished one point behind podium positions and was fourth.
Toni Bou was second in the first pass through the zones, 3 points behind Jeroni Fajardo, but he was able to recover the lost ground in the second lap to secure the first place in the last zone.
Takahisa Fujinami finished fourth, just one point away from the third position.
With today’s result, Bou strengthens his position in the lead of the World Championship with 19 points of advantage over the second, with just three rounds left to finish the competition.
Toni Bou:
“Today it was a very tough race. It was easy to fail and very difficult to recover. In the first lap we had Fajardo ahead, he did a good race, but in the second lap we were able to recover and stand the pressure. We were able to win in the last zone, in front of the public, which was very nice. For the championship, today is a very important day to take a step forward. I also want to congratulate Fujinami, who also did a great race today while going out first to the zones.”
Takahisa Fujinami:
“Today I fought hard. As I was opening the zones, I didn’t know that so many riders were getting quite a few penalties and I wasn’t aware of my position. In the second lap I pushed as hard as I could and I finished very close to the podium. It’s a pity, but as I was going out first, I’m very happy with my riding today. It was tough due to the heat, not only for me but also for the team, so I want to thank them all. We’re motivated to continue.”
