Toni Bou takes his sixteenth victory at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona and Gabriel Marcelli equals his best result with second.
The opening of the new season of the Indoor Trial World Championship could not have gone better for the Repsol Honda team. Toni Bou began in the same way in which he closed the year last season: With a win. Gabriel Marcelli accompanied him on the podium after placing second
The Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona once again witnessed a victory for Toni Bou with the Repsol Honda team. Despite the fact that the 32-time world champion started the first round with an error, he managed to fight back in the second, qualifying for the final in first position. True to his style, Bou closed the event with his sixteenth victory in Barcelona.
Gabriel Marcelli started his second season with the team with a podium to his record. The Galician rider, who was also unfortunate at the start of the race, enjoyed a brilliant second round that gave him a direct pass to the final. After a great duel with Jaime Busto, he took second place, equaling his best result in the indoor championship.
With this first win, Toni Bou leads the overall standings with 21 points, followed by his teammate, Gabriel Marcelli, with 15. The second round of the season will take place in Austria on March 11th.
Toni Bou:
I’m very happy to start the season with a victory in Barcelona. We were a bit behind on the first round, but on the second round I felt more comfortable and that allowed me to finish first and contest the final. The last round was very good, I felt great and I rode very solidly.
Gabriel Marcelli:
I came into this one with pain in my knee from a heavy crash fall two weeks ago, so I haven’t been able to train as much as I would have liked. In the first round I began to notice discomfort and it affected me, but we were able to solve it by reaching the final round and getting on the podium with Toni. I’m very happy, we were fighting until the end and now it is time to continue in this way at the next events.
