Toni Bou takes double victories in Andorra

The Repsol Honda Team rider increases his lead in the standings. Gabriel Marcelli ends the weekend with two fifth places.

Sant Julià de Lòria (Andorra) hosted the fifth round of the Trial World Championship, which was contested under changeable weather conditions but with rain playing an important role. The Repsol Honda Team riders took two wins with Toni Bou and two fifth places with Gabriel Marcelli.

On the first day of action, Bou showed his potential from the outset, with a first lap that featured few errors and a near-flawless second lap that saw him incur just four penalty points. On Sunday the 32-time World Champion repeated the feat, dominating the first lap and also winning the second lap amidst tougher competition.

Marcelli suffered a little more at the start of the Andorran TrialGP, with a first lap that placed him in fifth position. During the second lap, the Repsol Honda Team rider was more competitive, even fighting for the podium. However, he failed to progress past fifth place. On the second day, under rainy and muddy conditions, he ended the first lap in fifth position and did the same on Lap 2, level on points with the rider in fourth.

With the fifth round of the TrialGP World Championship completed, Bou is in first place overall with 191 points, while Marcelli remains third with 133. The next round will take place in Italy on the weekend of July 21st-23rd.

TONI BOU – 1st

“I’m very happy. It has been a great weekend for us, not only because of the victories, but also because of how I felt on the bike. The team have done an incredible job; in Andorra it is always difficult because of the altitude, so thank you to everyone. The objective in the next race in Italy will be to finish as high as possible, arrive in good shape and fight for a title in a battle that will be tight until the end.”

GABRIEL MARCELLI – 5th

“Today has been a difficult day. The overall verdict on the weekend is not positive, but we have collected a lot of information, we have learned things and now we have many points to improve and reinforce. This is what we will try to look for in the next few races. Regarding the championship, we are in third and now we have a good gap. The objective will be to learn from all the mistakes we have made this weekend, work very hard and get on the podium in the coming races.”
