The eight-time World Champion crashes out in Valencia at the end of an eleven-year collaboration
After 59 victories, 101 podiums, 64 pole positions and 6 world titles, Marc Márquez and the Repsol Honda Team concluded their time together at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia.
After a podium on Saturday in the sprint race, Márquez started from ninth position again in the race itself. He got off the line well, but during the fifth lap, the Repsol Honda Team rider was hit from behind by another competitor and ended up crashing out.
Márquez had to go to the medical centre to rule out any injury and, immediately afterwards, he went to the Repsol Honda Team box, where a warm and emotional farewell awaited him.
The record-breaking Márquez-Honda era thus comes to a close. The Repsol Honda Team will return to action this coming Tuesday at the Valencia test, with their sights set on the 2024 season.
MARC MÁRQUEZ – DNF
“Of course it was a super emotional Sunday, honestly a super emotional week and it was hard at some points to contain the feelings. Sadly, we didn’t finish the race today, I was feeling really strong today and I honestly think a podium was possible today and even maybe more. It wasn’t our mistake, and I don’t push against Martin because he was in attack mode. It happens when you’re fighting for a championship. But the most important thing today is to remember all of the incredible times I have had with HRC and the Repsol Honda Team, they will be the team of my life. We have written an incredible story together and they have become more than just my team, they have become my friends and my family. Thank you for everything since 2013, I will not forget any of you.”
