Toni Bou

Born on October 17, 1986 in Piera (Barcelona), Toni Bou started as a Bike Trial rider when he was eight. After winning the World Championship of his category, in 1999 he took the leap to the motorbike Trial.

Immersed in the motorcycling category, in 2001 he took the Junior Spanish Championship, a title that was followed by the 250cc European Cup for young stars in 2002 and the European Championship in 2003. In 2005 he was part of the team that won the Trial des Nations, was runner-up in the Trial Indoor Spanish Championship and fifth in the Outdoor World Championship.

The next year, Bou achieved his first wins in the highest class, both in the Indoor class (third in the World Championship) and the Outdoor class, where he finished again in fifth position of the World Championship classification.

After joining the ranks of the Repsol Montesa Honda team in the 2007 season, the rider from Piera dominated the Indoor World Championship. With a Montesa Cota 4RT, Toni Bou won four of the eight rounds that formed the Indoor calendar. The great level he showed placed him among the favourites to won the Trial Outdoor World Championship, that he also won after taking nine victories from the eleven rounds of the Championship. The icing of the cake was the Repsol rider’s victory in the Indoor Spanish Championship and his third consecutive win as a member of the Spanish team in the Trial des Nations.

2008

The following year the Repsol rider repeated his title in the Indoor World Championship and, after seven wins and five second positions in the Outdoor Championship, Bou was again absolute King of the discipline for the second year in a row. To close the season, he took again the Trial des Nations win with Spain and was once more Trial Indoor Spanish Champion.

2009

With a level ever higher, Toni Bou took again the title in 2009 of the Indoor and Outdoor Trial World Championships. He won four rounds indoor from the five that took place and seven outdoor from the eleven that formed the calendar. He finished the season winning the outdoor and indoor Spanish Championships and achieving a fifth victory in the Trial des Nations with the Spanish team. An amazing season in which he won the five titles he was fighting to get.

2010

The Repsol rider started the 2010 season without lowering his level one bit and achieving his two main targets of the year: to repeat for the fourth year in a row the victory in the World Championships, both indoor and outdoor. Four wins and one second position in the five rounds of the 2010 indoor Championship confirmed his crushing dominance of the class. With his seventh victory in eleven rounds of the Outdoor Championship, Toni Bou took his fourth consecutive title, closing the year with a new Indoor Spanish Title and as runner-up of the Outdoor Spanish Championship.

2011

The rider from Piera faced the 2011 season with the maximum ambition and competitiveness to defend his number one. Thanks to his talent and the support of his team, the Repsol Montesa Honda, Toni Bou had a faultless year: in march he added a new title to the X-Trial, Indoor Trial after winning the six rounds of the calendar. In September the Repsol rider obtained a new Outdoor title, his tenth consecutive World Championship.

2012

After taking his sixth X-Trial FIM World Championship with winning all rounds last march, the Repsol rider was unbeatable in the second half of the World Championship season. In the outdoor discipline, Bou achieved fantastic results that allowed him to also take his sixth outdoor World title, two rounds before the end of the series. With the two 2012 titles, Bou achieves, at only 25, the amazing number of 12 World Championship crowns, all of them consecutive, thus tied with Dougie Lampkin’s record, who achieved seven Outdoor and five Indoor titles.

2013

As he did in the last two years, Toni Bou closed the 2013 FIM X-Trial World Championship unbeaten. He achieved his seventh consecutive indoor World Championship title in the second-to-last round of the season, improving the record of 12 Championship held by Dougie Lampkin.

With a new engine in his Montesa Cota 4RT and the resulting adaptation curve in a World Champion with included new non-stop rules – that do not allow stopping in the areas before facing a new obstacle-, Bou shone again in the 2013 Outdoor Championship and achieved the title for the seventh season in a row. After a close fight with Adam Raga, the championship’s outcome was decided in the last round, after gathering 7 wins, 4 second places and 2 third position. At 26, the Repsol rider achieved the impressive amount of 14 consecutive World Championship titles –7 Outdoor and 7 in X-Trial–, beating the record set by Dougie Lampkin.

2014

In 2014, Toni Bou’s ambition is still intact and he has proved it by winning the first of the two World Championships of the season. One round before the end of the Championship, the Repsol rider has taken his 15th World Championship -8th in the Indoor category- with a perfect performance, as he has won the five rounds of the series. A success that allowed him to increase to 26 his consecutive Indoor victories.

2015

With four victories, a second position and a third place in the six rounds of the calendar, in 2015 he continued with his amazing streak of consecutive titles, up to 9 Indoor World Championships, 17 if counting the two series in which he competes.  In the outdoor season, with a crushing start of 9 consecutive victories and 3 wins and 3 second places in the next 6 rounds, the Repsol Honda Team rider took his ninth title, eighteenth of an incomparable sporting career.

2016

Turned into a live legend of this sport, Toni Bou rised the bar again in 2016 by achieving what seemed impossible: reaching the impressive figure of twenty World Championships. In the FIM X-Trial World Championship, which only had four rounds, he started with a second position in the first round, which increased the pressure on the several times champion. Nevertheless, he was able to climb up with a streak of three consecutive victories and keep the title for the tenth time in a row.

In the second half of the 2016 season, competing in the Outdoor series, the Repsol rider was able to overcome a shoulder injury and take a total of eleven wins, six of them consecutive, two second and one third place, which allowed him to secure yet another outdoor World title. Another perfect year for the Repsol rider, who keeps increasing his legend in the Spanish sporting history.

2017

In 2017 Bou kept his level and continued adding titles to his name. Four wins in the four rounds of the X-Trial World Championship certified his eleventh indoor World Championship. At the beginning of the outdoor Championship, Bou was again unbeatable on his way to winning his twenty-second World Championship title, one round before the end and signing again another perfect year, with which he keep increasing his legend in the Spanish sporting history.

2018

The Repsol Honda team rider has had an unstoppable start of 2018, achieving five victories in the first five World Championship rounds. An injury in a race that did not award points for the X-Trial World Championship made his participation in the next round, in Seville, uncertain. However, the cancellation of that round by the organizer allowed him to recover in time to resume the World Championship in Paris two weeks later. In the French round, despite not being at 100% physically, Bou was able to use his advantage in the overall standings to secure a new title to increase his already unparalleled track record.

In the outdoor category, and despite competing with the burden of a back injury, Bou has recovered his best form race after race. He won the first round and in the second he was out of the podium for the first time since 2012. From then on, a second place in the second day of the Japanese TrialGP and four consecutive victories allowed him to arrive to the second to last round of the calendar with his first chance to keep his title. In Great Britain, the Repsol Honda Team rider secured his 24th consecutive crown, twelfth in the outdoor series.

2019

Far from stopping his career, in 2019 Toni Bou secured another impressive milestone in his carreer. After his victory in Budapest and a second position in Barcelona, three more consecutive victories in Bilbao, Granada and Marseille allowed him to secure the title, the thirteenthin X-Trial, and 25th of an impressive record book.

Demonstrating again his exceptional shape, Bou showed once more his great level at the TrialGP World Championship by winning the first six races. At the French Grand Prix, one round before the end of the championship, the Repsol Honda Team rider took his first chance to secure yet another title thanks to his seventh consecutive win, doing another perfect World Championship. It is the thirteenth title he has achieved outdoors and the twenty-sixth of his track record.

2020

Toni Bou was crowned X-Trial World Champion for the 14th time on March, having won the first five races. After the cancellation of the Austrian round, the Repsol Honda Team rider added another championship to his record, the 27th world title in trial competition. The 28th title, the 14th outdoor title, came in October 2020. After a TrialGP limited by the pandemic, Bou managed to win the title in Lazzate, Italy.

2021

In September 2021, the Repsol Honda Team rider won his 29th title, his 15th in the open air. Out of nine races, Toni Bou did not finish off the podium in any of them, taking seven wins and one second and third place, and clinching the championship on the last race, in the Portuguese town of Gouveia.

Two months later, on November 21st, Toni Bou brought his total number of titles to 30, winning his 15th Indoor World Championship at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona. Bou took the two victories in the only two rounds of the championship, shortened by Covid-19 restrictions.

2022

On September 1st, Toni Bou won his 16th X-Trial title after the cancellation of the last round of the championship. The Repsol Honda rider took four victories and a second place in the five races contested, thus closing a brilliant year.

A few weeks later, in the last round of the Trial GP championship held in Ponte di Legno (Italy), Bou once again added to his trophy cabinet with the title of champion in the outdoor discipline. The Repsol Honda rider did not get off the podium during the whole season, with seven victories and three second places.

2023

With five victories in six of the races that made up the 2023 X-Trial World Championship, Bou was crowned X-Trial World Champion for the 17th time in Madrid. In the outdoor speciality, Bou also kept the streak going and also won the TrialGP title, his 17th in the speciality and 34th in his career.

2024

At the age of 37, Bou has renewed his contract with the Repsol Honda team for 4 seasons, extending his relationship with the team that has seen him triumph beyond the age of 40.
