The two companies resume the partnership that made history in the 1990s. Alejandro Cachón and co-driver Borja Rozada unveil the colours of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Spain team, with which they will compete in the World Rally Championship, at Campus Repsol.

Repsol returns to the WRC with the help of Toyota, the partner with which the multi-energy company made history in the competition with Carlos Sainz in the 1990s, winning world championships in 1990 and 1992. Now they resume their collaboration through Toyota Gazoo Racing Spain, for whom Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada will drive in the WRC2 class.

Cachón and Rozada were crowned winners of the Spanish Rally Super Championship (S-CER) in 2024, and now move up to the World Championship driving a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, in a sporting project that includes seven events—the first of which will be in the Canary Islands from April 24-27th.

For Repsol, this agreement with Toyota represents a new opportunity to continue using high-level competition to test products under the most demanding conditions. The Spanish multi-energy company will make its lubricants available to the team, in an exchange of technological knowledge that will allow them to learn how to subsequently improve their products and make them available to customers.

For several seasons, both companies have been working together in the Dakar Rally, first with Isidre Esteve and his Toyota Hilux T1+, and since 2024 also with the official Toyota Gazoo Racing team—with drivers Lucas Moraes and Seth Quintero. For Repsol, Toyota is a very important partner with whom it shares a common vision for the future of mobility, a vision that is only possible through a model that utilises all available energy solutions to ensure an equal commitment to supplying all customers.

“At Repsol, we are very happy to be able to return to the World Rally Championship, a competition that has brought us many successes in the past. This new project with Toyota, with Alejandro Cachón and Borja Rozada, will bring us great joy from a sporting perspective, but it will also allow us to continue using the competition as a testing ground for our products, in this case, our lubricants. For us, Toyota is more than a partner with whom we can share sporting projects; it’s partner on a journey with whom we are interested in working because we share the same vision for mobility. High-level competition allows us to test technological solutions that then reach our end customers, just as happens in Raids, where we are also partners in developing renewable fuels that later reach our service stations.”

Miguel Carsi, President of Toyota Spain

“At Toyota, racing is part of our DNA and a fundamental platform for innovation and developing talent. This new collaboration with Repsol revives a historic alliance, now with an eye toward the challenges of both today and tomorrow. With TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Spain and drivers like Alejandro Cachón, we continue a project together that unites technology, a passion for motorsport, and a shared understanding of the future of mobility.”

Alejandro Cachón:
“I’m very happy to announce this great project in which Toyota and Repsol return to the World Championship. I’m very excited and eager to take on this year and give it my all in WRC2.”

Borja Rozada:
“I’m very proud of this partnership between Repsol and Toyota, which will give us great peace of mind and motivation to achieve the best result at the Rally Islas Canarias and the rest of the WRC2 events.”
