The Repsol rider, who started from pole position was forced to retire when he was in eleventh position
Bad luck after a good start of the weekend for Marc Márquez at the British Grand Prix. After achieving yesterday the fastest time in a faultless qualifying session, today Marc had a difficult day on the English track. The rain was once again the main protagonist and Marquez, who had already had a spectacular crash in the warm-up where he destroyed his bike, fell again during the race. A painful zero in his track record after a brilliant performance in the practice session.
The weather forecast for today was right and the announced rain arrived just on time. The warm-up sessions of the three classes took place under a heavy downpour and in the case of Moto2, Marc Márquez was on his last lap when he lost control in the last corner. His bike was violently thrown in the air to the wall and was completely destroyed. Marc had set the fourteenth fastest time.
The two hours between the end of the warm-up and the start of the race, the first of this Sunday, saw frantic activity in the Repsol rider’s garage. Young Márquez Team had to prepare a completely new bike for him: engine, chassis, swingarm, forks, electronics, pegs… Absolutely everything was new. They barely had time, but the team showed that they are at the rider’s level and Márquez arrived to the starting grid with a new bike.
But the happiness in his box was short-lived. After starting from the first position of the grid, the Repsol rider kept losing ground in the first laps while he cautiously waited for the tyres to warm up. Marc fell to the thirteenth position in a race that was expected to be eventful.
From the fifth lap on, Márquez started to recover, but in the eighth lap and when he was eleventh, he lost control of the back again and was thrown in the air. That was the end of a weekend that had started very well… but finished with zero points for him. Now the Repsol rider will have to wait two weeks until he gets to the Netherlands to make up for this result.

“It was a very good weekend until Sunday. With the dry track we had found a very good set-up, we were very comfortable and fast. This morning, when we woke up it was raining and the warm-up was on wet tarmac. When I entered the main straight I had a weird crash and the bike was destroyed. The team did a great job so that I could get out on track although the bike was not the same and it was a success only to be at the start. I did not feel comfortable, so I tried to take it easy, with the aim to ride without taking any risks. I found myself on the floor before I could realize. I was not pushing, I did not even try to overtake as I was not very confident but when I opened the gas the bike threw me to the air unexpectedly. We now have to think about Holland, but before that I want to apologize to my team for the horrible Sunday I made them have, because they made a great effort during all weekend”.
