The three Alpine 1600 SXs in the Repsol Classic Team managed to finish among the fastest ten cars in the V Isla de Mallorca Classic Rally, an international race for vintage cars which at the same time is one of the most prestigious in Europe as the participation is mostly made up of foreign teams. The cars in the most important vintage Spanish team got the best classification of all the teams that went to the Mediterranean island.
The race in Mallorca was once again blessed with good organisation and tough timed sections on the island`s demanding roads. Around a hundred teams competed over four days on Mallorca´s most difficult roads, the most notable of these being the unique sections around La Calobra and the Puerto de Soller.
Javier Ortega & Carlos de Miguel classified their Alpine cars in sixth and seventh place on the leaderboard. Miguel Arias was a little further behind after suffering from a broken disc brake on the front end which gave him a penalty at the final race control. The rally was won by Ramón Monsonís in a Porsche 911.
This race was good training for the Repsol Classic Team, and mechanics, as it gets its cars ready to tackle the next round in the calendar which is also one of the most important races of the year: the three drivers will participate in the Tour Auto de Francia in the middle of April, the most prestigious race in Europe for vintage cars. The Spanish team will seek reinforcements for this race, the Colombian driver Camilo Steuer will also be there in a Fiat 124 Abarth painted in the Repsol team colours.
