Pedro Acosta takes his first victory in Moto3, while Montella wins in Moto2 and Alonso claims the triumph in the ETC.
Pedro Acosta was the winner of Monday’s Moto3 Junior World Championship race in Portugal, edging out Xavier Artigas at the chequered flag. The podium was rounded out by David Salvador.
Both races in the European Moto2 Championship had the same Top 3. Italian Yari Montella has crossed the finish line on both occasions, followed by Niki Tuuli in second, and Alessandro Zaccone in third.
The only race of the day for the European Talent Cup required two starts, due to a red flag on the first lap. Off the restart, David Alonso was able to break away, and achieved the victory with a two-second advantage over his pursuers. After him, Spaniards Alberto Fernández and Marco Morelli placed second and third, respectively.
After the opening two rounds, Acosta and Artigas are tied at the top of the Moto3 Junior World Championship, whilst Montella’s wins in Moto2 and Alonso’s success in the ETC maintain their leadership of their respective classes.
The next round of the FIM CEV Repsol will take place at the Jerez-Angel Nieto Circuit and will feature two days of racing for the first time this season. The races will be held on August 29th and 30th, with a total of three contests for Moto3, two for Moto2 and three for the ETC.
PEDRO ACOSTA – MOTO3 RACE WINNER
“It was a good race after the pole position we achieved yesterday. Throughout the contest I was thinking about the last lap, so as not to make the same mistake as at Estoril. I have no words to describe what I feel; it is my first victory after three years in this championship. I especially want to dedicate this to Andreas Pérez and his whole family.”
YARI MONTELLA – MOTO2 RACE 1 WINNER
“I am very happy with this victory and with all the work that we have done, since we had no previous data for this track. I kept the pace up lap-after-lap, and this allowed me to establish a gap distance. It was a great job done by the entire team.”
YARI MONTELLA – MOTO2 RACE 2 WINNER
“In the second race I made a great start -I think even better than in the first one. I’m very happy. It was quite difficult because it was very hot and I had a problem with the front of the bike, but finally I was able to take the victory.”
DAVID ALONSO – EUROPEAN TALENT CUP RACE WINNER
“It was an incredible race. It’s too bad about the red flag, but we were able to start again and I broke away, keeping up a good pace during the remaining 10 laps. This is a third very important victory for the title fight. I appreciate the work done by the team and all those who support me.”
