Alex Marquez undergoes successful surgery on right shoulder

Repsol Moto3 rider undergoes procedure to fix shoulder –damaged back in October– on Thursday afternoon at the Hospital Universitario Quiron Dexeus.

The 2013 Moto3 Rookie of the Year, Alex Marquez, has used the winter break to undergo surgery to resolve a shoulder issue. The Repsol rider, who has been suffering from a ‘recurring dislocation’ of the joint, was successfully operated on at the Hospital Universitario Quiron Dexeus in Barcelona and will be resting up for 3 weeks before beginning functional recovery.

The operation was performed by Dr. Xavier Mir, Head of the Hand and Upper Extremities Unit, and by Dr. Victor Marlet, Head of the Back and Back Arthroscopy Unit. The doctors “stabilised the shoulder by introducing a bone block and reconstructing the anterior shoulder ligaments.”

The decision to undergo surgery was made after Marquez noted problems in recent months. He had dislocated his shoulder at this past season’s Malaysian Grand Prix. He now hopes to start 2014 in the best shape possible.
