Alonso López and Sergio García win the Junior World Championship races, Ricky Cardús takes victory in the two Moto2 European Championship rounds and Iker García win in the European Talent Cup.
Alonso López and Sergio García obtained the two wins up for grabs in the Junior World Championship, separated from the second by less than one tenth in both cases.
García leaves Barcelona as overall leader, with a two-point advantage over the second, Italian Dennis Foggia.
The high temperatures at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit made track conditions more difficult; for example, with the 25 crashes among the two Junior World Championship races.
Ricky Cardús dominated both races of the Moto2 European Championship, achieving two wins that placed him as overall leader, despite having missed the Albacete round.
Iker García won the European Talent Cup, but the leader of the championship is Manuel González, who is the one rider who got on to the podium in the three races already held this season.
ALONSO LÓPEZ – MOTO3 FIRST RACE WINNER
“It was a difficult race. Yesterday I crashed during the first Qualifying session and I couldn’t qualify well even if I knew I was fast. During the second session, I focused to find a good pace for the second race. Today it went well during the race, I started overtaking in nearly every corner and I felt very well. I’m very happy with this win and I want to dedicate it to my team and to all the people helping me.”
SERGIO GARCÍA – MOTO3 SECOND RACE WINNER
“It was a very complete weekend. I felt very well during all the practice sessions, comfortable and with a good pace. Both races were complicated, as it was very hot and we were a big group of riders. Nevertheless, I could be on top and I did my best.”
RICKY CARDÚS – MOTO2 FIRST RACE WINNER
“I’m happy. Truth is that this championship has a higher and higher level and that reflects on the times set. I did three races in the World Championship, which helped me get a good pace and I think I’m one of the few riders in the world who have tried all the Moto2 bikes, I just missed the Kalex. It was difficult to set it up, as the KTM is very different, but today, during the warm-up, I found a setup that we liked and with a tyre that already had 35 laps, which is what I wanted. Later, during the race, we were able to find our own pace.”
RICKY CARDÚS – MOTO2 SECOND RACE WINNER
“It has been a perfect weekend. We took the pole position, finished on top in the practice sessions and the warm-up. I wasn’t at 100% this weekend with the bike, but the team was perfect and they gave me a better bike in each session. We knew this race would be difficult and I also had a bad start. I didn’t know whether to overtake the other riders and pull, or stay behind to see what they did. In the end, I had to push because the bike’s temperature was rising. I was able to overtake them, but I lost pace a bit and I also made some mistakes when I took the lead. I tried to calm down because I was going wide and then I saw that the others did the same, as the tyres were wearing. Then I focused and I was able to hold the lead until the finish line.”
IKER GARCÍA – EUROPEAN TALENT CUP FIRST RACE WINNER
“I wasn’t able to manage the race too much because I had to push until we caught up with the leading group and then I had to keep pushing hard the whole race. Truth is that I didn’t expect to win, I thought we could do a good race because we had a fast pace, but not that we would be on top. I wasn’t conscious that I had a chance to win until mid-race, when I was able to take the lead of my group and push until I was able to achieve it.”
