Alonso López takes tenth and Sergio García fifteenth in close Dutch GP

Both Repsol riders scored points at the Netherlands

On the first lap, Sergio Garcia – starting from 15th – was up into 14th. Alonso Lopez – 24th on the grid – climbed to 18th.

After the midway point of the race, García was penalised and had to do a ‘long lap’ for skipping the final chicane, due to contact with another rider. That relegated him to the second group.

Lopez overtook Canet and Fenati on the last lap to reach tenth, climbing 14 positions over the course of the race.

Sergio García claimed a point thanks to his 15th place.

“On the first few laps I made up a lot of places and showed the true pace I had. Later, until two thirds of the way through the race, I slowed down a bit, because all the riders were quite aggressive and it was hard to overtake. From the incident with several riders crashing at the same time onwards, I managed to improve. In the end I finished in tenth place and I’m happy, because my goal in this race was to score points. Let’s see if at Sachsenring, which is a circuit that I like, we can go a step further.”

“At the beginning of the race I was in the front group, but practically the whole grid was there. There was contact with another rider, it took me off-line and I lost positions, but then I fought back again. It’s a pity that I then had to do a ‘long lap’ that made me lose contact with the leading group. This has been a positive weekend, rounded off by a race that helps us to continue accumulating experience.”
