The Repsol rider achieved his second consecutive victory at the British Grand Prix despite being injured in the last lap. Takahisa Fujinami was fourth, just out of the podium.
A crash in the seventh zone of the third lap did not prevent Toni Bou from winning the second day of the British Grand Prix of Trial, that was held on Sunday at Penrith. With a stab wound in the right abdominal wall, which needed stitches and caused the several times World Championship to be taken to the hospital after the end of the race, the Repsol rider decided to finish the lap. He not only finished, but achieved the best result, as he had already done in the two previous laps. With this triumph, his sixth of the season, the Repsol Montesa Honda rider increased his overall lead to 10 points, two rounds before the end of the Championship.
The Team Manager, Miquel Cirera, described what happened today: “After Toni’s [Bou] crash we calculated that even taking a 5-point penalty for each of the five zones left, we had victory secured. Toni decided to try and he finished. His injury is not serious; we are not worried about it, especially as we have four free weeks ahead. The advantage of ten points makes us confident about achieving our aim, which is to win the title for the seventh year in a row”.
His team mate at the Repsol Montesa Honda, Takahisa Fujinami, arrived to the last zone with chances to repeat yesterday’s 1-2 for the team, but a mistake sent him to the fourth place.
The current edition of the FIM Trial World Championship will finish with the two days of the French Grand Prix, next August 31st and September 1st, at Isola 2000.
Takahisa Fujinami
“I did not as good a start as yesterday and I’m not happy with my first lap, nor with most of the second. After that I improved and I recover yesterday’s good feelings. I arrived to the last zone with chances to finish second, but it was not to be. Being able to strengthen my third place in the overall standings was the best thing of the day”.
