Bou continues his winning streak in Barcelona

The Repsol rider achieves his sixth victory in the Barcelona round, out of the World Championship calendar, and is now only one victory away from Jordi Tarrés record

Once again, Toni Bou took a victory at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, achieving his sixth triumph in the Catalan race. In this new edition, the rider from Piera showed again a great riding level that allowed him to finish with only a 6-point penalty —1 in the qualifying and 5 in the final—. His team mate, Takahisa Fujinami, was not able to classify for the finale and finished fourth.

From the first moment Toni Bou made his aim clear and, already in the qualifying was able to offer the public a nearly perfect round where he only received 1 point. The Repsol rider was one of the two only riders, together with Albert Cabestany, who did not receive any penalty in the difficult 5th zone, which would be a preview of the finale.

In the decisive phase, Cabestany and Bou offered the public a beautiful duel. The 10.100 spectators saw how, after only one mistake in the las 5 zones, Toni Bou achieved another victory in the Barcelona Trial. The rider from Piera thus achieved his sixth victory in the Catalan city, which is only one win away from Jordi Tarres’ record of 7 victories.

Takahisa Fujinami finished fourth as he was not able to classify for the final by 8 points. The Japanese was able to offer a good show to the public on track and received the appreciation of the crowd.

“I am very happy with today’s result. As this round did not give points for the World championship, we were able to ride more relaxed, with less pressure and offering a better show, specially in the last zones. If it had been a World Championship round we would have tried to secure a lot more, but here you can take risks and in the end everything went my way. And the public likes that. I also rode well and I am happy with the way the bike works. To be able to achieve my sixth win in Barcelona is also important. It was a great day”.

“This race was difficult, as the circuit was very technical and the obstacles really complicated. The most important thing is that I finished fourth, very close to the top three. Our aim was to be in the top places and we were. I am happy for my team mate Toni [Bou], who won again. We are also in Barcelona and, although this year the round is not part of the Championship calendar, there are always a lot of fans that come to see us and today, more than ever, it had to be a great show”.
